Dear members of the ACS Division of Biological Chemistry,

The Division of Biological Chemistry (DBC) seeks creative and enthusiastic members of our division to serve on our newly established Communications Committee. This committee will function as a bridge from the elected Executive Committee of the division to all of our members. Your leadership through the roles outlined below will play a critical role in implementing a number of new initiatives that resulted from our strategic planning exercise in 2022, and together are aimed at ensuring that the ACS DBC is best serving our scientific community!

We are seeking to fill three positions:

  1. Co-chair of the committee who will partner with DBC Chair-elect Jen Heemstra to plan and implement the strategic vision for the Communications Committee.
  2. Webmaster (http://www.divbiolchem.org) who will make regular website updates and ensure that website formatting is engaging and relevant.
  3. Social media organizer (Twitter: @ACS_DivBioChem) to publicize DBC events and spotlight our members and their stories and achievements.

The first position is a volunteer position while the other two are compensated at a rate of $1500 annually (as an honorarium).

We are particularly interested in recruiting early-career members of the DBC to serve in these roles, including graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, or early career professionals who have an interest in seeing biochemistry and chemical biology thrive within the ACS.

Please contact David Giedroc (giedroc@indiana.edu), DBC Chair, or Jen Heemstra (heemstra@wustl.edu), DBC Chair-elect, with questions. To see a description of each position and apply, hit the blue Volunteer button on the home page, fill in the contact information requested, select the position you’re interested in, and attach a single pdf containing a CV or NIH Biosketch and a short statement (less than ½ page) outlining your interest in, and experience pertaining to, the positions. Individuals may apply for multiple positions (use the “no-preference” option) but may only hold a single position at one time. Applications close on April 1, 2023.

Thanks so much for your support of the DBC – we look forward to hearing from you!
